PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An early morning car chase with Providence police Saturday morning led to a car crash near Classical High School that took down a utility pole, said Lt. Dean Isabella.
The police responded to a report of shots fired on Redwing Street in South Providence at around 5 a.m., Isabella said.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the four occupants of the car and ordered them to stop the vehicle. Instead, the car drove away, resulting in a "short chase," Isabella said, that resulted in the car hitting a telephone pole.
One of the occupants was charged with possession of a firearm and narcotics; the driver was charged with operating a stolen vehicle, reckless eluding and driving with a suspended license, Isabella said.
The four occupants of the car were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and treated for their injuries and their names would likely be released later on Saturday, Isabella said.
