PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Three days into the new year, the Providence police seized their first firearm -- a stolen sawed-off shotgun, found under the bed of a suspected drug dealer.
The case began Thursday afternoon, when Detectives David Schiavulli Jr. and Francisco Guerra witnessed an alleged drug deal at the corner of Admiral and Douglas avenues.
They arrested the customer, and then tracked the alleged dealer -- 25-year-old Daivon James -- back to 35 Grape St., according to a police report.
James attempted to flee by backing his car into a snowbank. He was arrested at gunpoint, searched, and relieved of about 20 bags of crack cocaine between his buttocks, the police said.
The detectives found the stolen shotgun, assorted shell casings for handguns and shotguns, and drug-packaging material in the house.
