WARWICK, R.I. -- The state's bid to purchase the remainder of the Rocky Point amusement park property and preserve it as open space will be heard in federal court next month.
In an order issued Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald R. Lagueux set a Feb. 13 hearing date on the state Department of Environmental Management's $9.65-million pending purchase agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The SBA has control of the land because it is the court-appointed receiver for the defunct park.
The February hearing will be preceded by advertisement of the state's offer so that other bidders have an opportunity to come forward.
State officials have noted that other bidders will have to meet the same public space commitment as the DEM offer.
