PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Late Thursday, Governor Chafee named his final appointment to the state's new unified education board that is charged with overseeing K-12 and higher education.
Chafee tapped Michael A. Grande, a certified public accountant from Warwick who teaches at Providence College, to serve as the 11th and final member of the new Rhode Island Board of Education.
Last month, Chafee selected lawyer Eva Marie Mancuso as chairperson and on Tuesday named nine others to the new governance structure.
But the last seat remained unfilled, until Chafee submitted Grande's name to the Senate, which must vet and approve his appointments.
The state's Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of Governors for Higher Education were disbanded on Dec. 31, 2012.
