PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A web designer on the state's RI.gov site has been selected from a pool of nearly 700 applicants as a member of the White House's first class of "innovation fellows."

Danny Chapman's selection as a Presidential Innovation Fellow was announced by the White House Thursday.
The fellows will spend six months in Washington working in teams on five projects aimed at supporting entrepreneurship that saves taxpayer money and fuels job creation.
Chapman will work on MyGov, creating a prototype of a streamlined website that helps people more easily access information from the federal government, which currently has 1,200 websites.
Chapman is from East Providence. He will take a leave as creative director at Rhode Island Interactive, the provider of the state's official website.
