CRANSTON -- Those in a position to help Rhode Island in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy are doing so, according to Sen. Jack Reed, except Republicans who control the House.
On Tuesday, the House was voting on a disaster-relief bill of $17 billion, not the $51 billion the Democrat-controlled Senate wanted.
"The House bill is absurdly inadequate," Reed said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Reed meet with National Guard Adjutant General Kevin R. McBride and the staff of the R.I. Emergency Management Agency, whom he praised, along with FEMA, for their disaster response.
Afterward, Reed conducted a press conference and criticized Republicans for playing politics with suffering.
With Hurricane Katrina, Reed noted, "We recognized the suffering and the damage to communities. We acted with alacrity."
