PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A man who stabbed his former girlfriend several times pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of assault with intent to commit murder.
Christopher Amaral, 35, of 28 Roosevelt Drive, Bristol, entered the plea before Superior Court Judge Netti Vogel, who scheduled sentencing for March 26. Amaral could face up to 20 years in prison, said Emily Martineau, spokeswoman for Atty. Gen. Peter F. Kilmartin.
Cranston officers arrested Amaral July 23, 2011. The victim, Andrea Wilmot, then 21, of 221 Garden St., told officers that she had broken off the relationship with Amaral.
She said her car had been vandalized earlier in the evening, and that when she arrived home Amaral accosted her and stabbed her nine times.
