The owner of the Raynham Park simulcast racing center has applied for a slots parlor gambling license being offered Massachusetts.

George Carney told The Journal moments ago that his Greenwood Racing partnership had formally submitted a slots-license application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

The deadline for applications for the slots license and two resort casino licenses is 5 p.m.

Greenwood Racing will have at least one other competitor for the slots license -- Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville, Mass. About 10 entities, in all, thus far have made today's application deadline.

Massachusetts is reserving one casino license -- for Southeastern Massachusetts -- for a tribal-run operation. The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is trying to get the federal land trust status it needs to secure that license.
