U.S. Rep. James R. Langevin Monday applauded President Barack Obama's proposals to curb gun violence.
"While the accident that nearly took my life reminds me that we cannot prevent every gun-related incident, it also leaves me at a loss that we have not taken every possible step to stop the wrong people from acquiring the most destructive firearms and ammunition. It is long past time that we address the tragic losses that so many in our nation have suffered," Langevin said in a release.
Langevin endorsed Obama's "all-encompassing" approach.
"We can protect the rights of the millions of law-abiding gun owners, while meeting our moral obligation to protect the safety of Americans, particularly our kids," he said.
