U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline Monday called President Barack Obama's actions to curb gun violence a bold and needed move
The actions "will help to enhance the federal background check system and help keep guns from individuals who should not have them," Cicilline said.
"By taking bold action today, the President demonstrated that he will not wait to ensure the safety and well-being of children and communities across our nation. I applaud him and Vice President Biden for leading this important effort."
Congress, he added, should quickly enact legislation that requires a universal background check on any gun sales, bans military-style assault weapons, makes it illegal to sell or own high-capacity magazines, and increases penalties for people who help criminals illegally acquire guns.
