CENTRAL FALLS -- Newly-elected Mayor James A. Diossa, the city's first Latino chief executive, will host a public hearing on Thursday in which he will introduce a comprehensive ethics ordinance.
The hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on Broad Street.
"The price for corrupt politicians and their mismanagement has been high,'' Diossa said in a statement. "Hardworking residents have had to endure the pain of a difficult bankruptcy process that included higher taxes, reduced public services, and the closing of our community center and public library.''
The Adams Memorial Library has since been reopened with volunteers and three paid staff members.
Diossa's predecessor, ex-Mayor Charles D. Moreau pleaded guilty to a federal corruption charge and will be sentenced on Feb. 12.
