WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- The West Warwick Police Department is asking for help in identifying a man who abandoned an English bulldog on Jan. 7 in front of the West Warwick Animal Shelter.
The authorities said a man was caught in surveillance tape driving up to the town shelter at 106 Hay St. around 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 7, a Monday.
The man is seen taking a brown and white English bulldog out of the back seat of the white Volkswagen Jetta and tying the dog outside the shelter's gate. The dog was left in the cold without food or water.
The authorities said the male dog, Melvin, is old and visually impaired and showed signs of neglect.
It is being treated at the shelter is not yet up for adoption, said Lori Rivard, the town animal control officer.
