Today in RI history: Young women killed in Warwick crash

A year ago today:
The owner of the Arcade, America's oldest indoor mall, has big plans to reopen the Downtown Providence landmark building in the fall with a mix of retail and lofts. Its 2008 closure and the failing economy reduced pedestrian traffic that hurt nearby merchants.

5 years ago today:
Two young women are killed when their car smashes against a tree on an unlit section of Ives Road near the eastern end of Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick.

25 years ago today:
The owner of Williams & Manchester Shipyard, one of the last remaining boat builders on Newport Harbor, has scrapped plans to move to another Aquidneck Island site and will move to Salisbury, Md., instead.
