Man accused of abandoning dog turns himself in

WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- A man accused of abandoning an English bulldog in the wee hours of Jan. 7 has turned himself in to the police, West Warwick Detective Sgt. Scott Amaral said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 13, Amaral said.

The dog, now being called Melvin, is estimated to be about 10 years old. It is visually impaired and is being treated for a yeast infection throughout its body.
