NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- Police in New Bedford say they are looking for a city man who was apparently abducted by two people pretending to be police officers.
Police say two men wearing jackets with the word "Police" on them, as well as chains around their neck that carried what looked like badges, went to John Sylvia's apartment late Thursday morning, handcuffed him, bundled him into a white U-Haul van with Arizona plates, and drove off.
The 29-year-old Sylvia is on federal probation for drug charges.
Sylvia's girlfriend refused to go with the suspects because she had her baby with her.
Police tell The Standard Times (http://bit.ly/W6UGt0 ) they have been unable to confirm any legitimate police involvement in the case.
