CENTRAL FALLS _ The city has received $30,000 that will allow Animal Control to work with low-income pet owners to help neuter and spay cats to help relieve cat overpopulation in Rhode Island.
Central Falls is one of five municipalities to receive grant funds secured by Cat Adoption Team Services (CATS). The donation comes by way of the Petco Foundation.
According to CATS Director, Rita Falaguerra, the cat over-population problem in Rhode Island has reached a critical stage. Every year thousands of cats are euthanized and many more remain homeless. This problem can only be solved through spaying and neutering, Flaguerra said. Statistics show one male cat can father 420,000 kittens in just five years.
