PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After a few weeks focused on gay marriage, the state House of Representatives turns its attention to Governor Chafee's proposed $8.2-billion state budget Wednesday afternoon.
The budget-writing House Finance Committee will hear a presentation from House Fiscal Adviser Sharon Reynolds Ferland and her staff following the regular House session that starts around 4 p.m.
Ferland's staff issued this initial analysis of the budget last week.
The Senate Finance Committee was briefed on the budget Jan. 17, the day after Chafee submitted his budget.
Chafee has said this year marks the first time in more than two decades that a Rhode Island governor has presented his budget plan to lawmakers on time.
Lawmakers need to approve a new budget by the start of the next fiscal year on July 1.
