SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- With its season set to open Feb. 14 with "Monty Python's Spamalot," the Courthouse CenterStage has announced it is suspending programing to undertake a $100,000 capital campaign.
The money will go for cultural events and upkeep of its historic home, the old Washington County Courthouse. The six-month fund drive will culminate in a summer gala and awards ceremony, a news release said.
The troubled arts complex, near URI on Route 138, has been under new management and announced recently it would focus on presenting plays and musicals. Besides "Spamalot," it planned productions of "Avenue Q," Shakespeare's "As You Like It" and "Johnny Cash: Ring of Fire."
The 25-year-old center was formerly known as the South County Center for the Arts.
