PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A man dressed like a state trooper -- down to the distinctive hat and tall dark boots -- robbed a man during a "traffic stop" in Silver Lake Sunday afternoon.
The man driving a white Ford Crown Victoria flashed its red and blue lights and pulled over Jose Abreu on Eastwood Avenue. Abreu told Providence police that the Ford's driver got out, put a handgun to Abreu's head and robbed his money and cell phone.
The robber wore a gray Stetson-style hat with a badge, a gray shirt, brown pants, and high black boots. He was about 5 foot 7, roughly 160 pounds, with short hair, and a tattoo between his right thumb and index finger of what appeared to be the Portugal islands.
