PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Four men in a speeding car tried to flee in reverse when police stopped them in South Providence early Monday.
Patrolman Francisco Colon Jr. saw why when he ran after the Nissan and yanked open the driver's door -- the driver was trying to hide a .25 caliber firearm.
It was the 14th firearm seized by Providence police this year, said Capt. Michael E. Correia.
Davon McMahon, 18, was pulled out of the driver's seat and arrested. The three other young men in the car were checked by police. Another Nissan had been seen fleeing gunfire on Chatham Street a few hours earlier, but it wasn't clear whether this car was involved.
McMahon was arraigned Tuesday and held on surety bail.
