WARWICK, R.I. -- The ex-convict accused of robbing five banks in a week in Cranston and Providence made a scene during his arraignment in District Court on Friday.
Vaughn Watrous, 35, was belligerent before Judge Frank Cenerini, who finally sentenced him to 60 days at the Adult Correctional Institutions for contempt of court.
"Oooh, terrible," Watrous sneered. He pleaded not guilty to the bank robbery charges and told the judge, "'I'll represent my damn self."
Watrous is charged with robbing two banks in Cranston and three in Providence since Feb. 6. An alleged conspirator, Sao R. Te, 40, was also arraigned.
Cranston police arrested them Thursday night shortly after the two men allegedly robbed a Citizens Bank inside a Stop and Shop, near the police station.
