A year ago today:
A Providence County grand jury refuses to indict a state-licensed medical-marijuana grower who shot and killed an intruder who broke into his second-floor apartment on Smith Hill.

5 years ago today:
A skier from Rhode Island has died after crashing into a tree at Killington Ski Resort in Vermont. The police say Kirk O'Brien, 44, of Cumberland, caught an edge of his ski in the snow, lost control and struck a tree. O'Brien, who was wearing a helmet, suffered massive head injuries.

25 years ago today:
Brown University has banned discrimination against homosexuals. The Brown Corporation's action adds the ban to its policy against discrimination based on sex, color, ethnic or national origin, religion or handicap.
