PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A man accused of beating and attempting to strangle his child's mother was gone -- a week ago -- before police could arrest him.
That didn't help 32-year-old Michael P. Dumais, when the same officer who responded to the call happened to see him around the city on Monday, said Maj. Arthur Martins.
Officer Michael Costigan arrested Dumais on a warrant for felony domestic assault, domestic assault, and domestic disorderly conduct. The woman had sought medical treatment, but didn't want Dumais arrested, according to the police.
Dumais was arraigned at District Court Tuesday, where he was released on his own recognizance and ordered not to contact the woman.
