PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A car parked illegally on Williams Street late Friday night led a Pawtucket officer to discover a cold, crying little boy inside.
The toddler was wearing boots and pajamas, but had no blanket or jacket when an officer discovered him weeping for his mother inside the unlocked car, said Maj. Arthur Martins. The officer brought the boy to the police station and searched the vehicle's records to find his mother, Martins said.
Susan Lopes, 26, of 71 Putnam Pike, Johnston, had been stopped in Johnston earlier that day, which helped police locate her, Martins said. She told Pawtucket police that she'd left the boy while visiting a boyfriend, Martins said.
Lopes was charged with child neglect and is being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions.
