PROVIDENCE, R,I. -- Governor Chafee will participate in a panel discussion at New York University on Thursday to talk about the "economic harms" of not allowing gay couples to marry.
The discussion is sponsored by the Respect for Marriage Coalition and will be moderated by CNBC host Suze Orman.
The panel will also feature same-sex couples who will share their experiences, as well as Nanette Lee Miller of Marcum LLP, an accounting and advisory firm.
Chafee has been a consistent supporter of marriage equality and is a member of a local coalition advocating for its passage in Rhode Island.
In May 2012, he issued an executive order requiring state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
