WARWICK, R.I. -- The Pawtuxet Rangers unveiled a 235-year-old copy of their 1774 charter on Thursday, which had been up for auction in Boston.
After learning of the pending sale, the militia group raised funds to put in a bid -- and acquired the historic document. They are now taking steps to preserve it.
The group was formed to protect the waterfront Pawtuxet Village from the British. It's now headquartered at Armory Hall, in the Warwick section of the village.
