NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- A New Hampshire man whose car ran off Tower Hill Road and flipped over at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday has been charged with suspected drunk driving.
The police found Paul Lawler, of Swanzey, N.H., lying inside his 2007 Cadillac along with a full 16-ounce bottle of Budweiser beer, according to the police report. Lawler did not appear to be seriously injured, the police said. A receipt for $34.24 from a bar tab at the All American Bar and Grill was found in his pants pocket.
A female passenger who was sitting on the curb when police arrived at the scene told police that they'd been drinking at the bar since about 10 p.m. and Lawler was driving her home.
Lawler was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he remained in the emergency room Saturday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The police charged Lawler with a second-offense refusal to submit to a chemical breath test.
