SWANSEA, Mass. -- U.S. Rep. James Langevin, who joked about his ability to do "stand-up" comedy, was the mystery guest Friday night as the Providence Newspaper Guild presented the 40th edition of its annual Follies show at the Venus de Milo.
More than 900 politicians, members of the media and other guests were at the comedy-dinner show, in which Langevin, introduced as the Hot Wheels congressman, offered a good-natured teasing of fellow politicians and poked fun at rock star Ted Nugent, with whom Langevin had a dust-up earlier this month over the issue of gun control.
Also making a guest appearance were State Rep. Frank G. Ferri (D-Warwick) and his partner, Anthony M. Caparco, who offered a musical argument for same-sex marriage to the tune of "Nothing Like a Dame" from the Broadway hit "South Pacific."
The climax of the show was a musical number called "Chafee Style," a spoof of the hit song "Gangnam Style," performed by Jim Brown, who posed as a singing and dancing Gov. Lincoln Chafee.
