PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The City Plan Commission on Tuesday unanimously gave its final approval to an East Side apartment project envisioned by Gilbane Development Corp.
The $28-million four-story building will have 95 apartments and room for approximately 270 residents -- expected to be primarily Brown University students. The project design underwent some revision since it was first proposed in March 2012, and the commission reviewed the remaining few changes Tuesday before voting.
The project will result in the demolition of nine old houses off Thayer Street.
Company chairman Robert Gilbane says he'd like to see preliminary construction work begin sometime this year.
