PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A former gang member with a record of domestic violence is accused of abusing his new girlfriend and her sons -- a baby and a 4-year-old.
What Miguel Plante-Torres, 26, called "play-fighting" left deep bruises on the children and their mother, who said she was afraid of him, according to the Providence police.
After weeks of searching, the U.S. Marshal's sex offender task force found Plante-Torres on Tuesday hiding in a closet in his girlfriend's apartment at 45 East Drive.
District Court Judge Anthony Capraro arraigned Plante-Torres that day, setting bail at $1,000 surety on two felony counts of second-degree child abuse and personal recognizance on a domestic assault charge.
Plante-Torres was bailed out before the end of the week.
