Today in RI history: American Dream slips from grasp of many in Providence

A year ago today:
Roldy Francois, 27, of Providence, who barricaded himself in an attic in 2010 when officials arrived to arrest him on gun and identity-theft charges, is sentenced to 13 years in federal prison. A jury convicted François of all 17 charges in his indictment, including being a felon in possession of five firearms.

5 years ago today:
Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge in South Kingstown will be closed next week as workers treat invasive plants with herbicide.

25 years ago today:
Since the beginning of 1987, the ability of the typical family to buy a typical house has eroded in the Providence area faster than anywhere else in the United States, according to a Journal-Bulletin computer analysis.
