PROVIDENCE. R.I. -- The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce has retired its signature event and hopes its newest creation will give rise to much-needed growth of the state's economy.
Enter the Garage, a name that's intended to conjure up the kind of start-up ingenuity in Silicon Valley that led to the creation of companies such as Google, Apple, Hewlett-Packard and Adobe, Chamber President Laurie White said Tuesday.
The May 14 event will replace the annual Rhode Island Business Expo, which began in 1989 and was later renamed RIBX as the Chamber updated its traditional exposition and shortened the two-day event to a one-day affair.
