A dangerous storm moving across the midwest will bring high winds, and a mix of rain, snow and sleet to our area beginning Wednesday.
Snow accumulations could top 12 inches north and west of Providence, with heavy rain in the city and to the south and east.
Coastal flooding is also expected, especially at the times of high tide, as well as river flooding throughout the storm.
Strong winds are expected, with some gusts to 60 mph possible along the coast.
The heavy, wet snow and high winds could cause power outages throughout the area.
Tuesday evening is expected to become mostly cloudy with a passing flurry or sprinkle.
Wednesday will start out dry, then give way to light wet snow, rain and sleet by afternoon and evening. It will turn windy with northeast winds at 15-25 mph and gusts to 40 mph. Temperatures will reach into the mid 40s.
The winds will reach gale force at 45 mph and increase along the coast Wednesday evening. The wet snow, sleet and rain will become steadier and heavier overnight. Temperatures are expected to drop to the low 30s.
On Thursday the snow and rain will fall heavily at times on continued strong winds. At the coast, the strong and potentially damaging winds will whip up large waves and coastal flooding during high tide cycles. Highs tempeatures will be around 39 degrees. Coastal winds will remain strong with gusts over 45 mph.
It all winds down Friday, with lingering snow showers mostly in the morning, but will remain windy.
