PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Governor Chafee has nominated five people to serve on the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation board of directors, including one of the remaining five active members, AFL-CIO President George H. Nee.

Nee, who voted for the 38 Studios loan-guarantee deal, has been working under an expired term after refusing Chafee's request last spring that he resign, along with other directors who had approved the $75 million loan guarantee for former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video-game company.

Chafee's other nominees are Shannon E. Brawley, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association (RINLA) since 2010; Dr. Nancy Carriuolo, president of Rhode Island College since 2008; Roland Fiore, president of South County Sand & Gravel Co., Inc., in South Kingstown and one of six people Chafee nominated last year but whose nominations expired because the state Senate never held confirmation hearings before adjourning last year; Jason E. Kelly, Executive Vice President of Moran Shipping Agencies.
