Snow ending, colder, drier air on the way

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The snow that has been whipping through Rhode Island is expected to end Friday evening.

The night will start mostly cloudy and gradually clear with brisker temperatures in the high 20s and drier air.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Providence, Bristol and Eastern Kent counties in Rhode Island and Bristol County in Massachusetts, while a winter weather advisory has been issued for the southern part of Rhode Island.

The wind will continue from the north at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

The storm, which moved into Southern New England Wednesday, has brought a varied impact to the region. Some areas got mostly snow, while others saw mixed precipitation.

Much of Rhode Island was spared while parts of neighboring Connecticut and Massachusetts were hard hit. For example, Providence has had only about an inch of snow, while nearby Mansfield, Mass., has had about a foot. according to WPRI. Taunton, Mass., had nearly 9 inches, while New Bedford, Mass. has about an inch.

The sun will come out this weekend and the temperature will work its way into the 40s.
