PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island General Assembly has gone to a 'D' from an 'F' after challenging grade it recently received from the Sunlight Foundation for its website's transparency.
The legislature, in particular, questioned its low ranking under the category of "timeliness."
According to the Sunlight Foundation report card, the state updates its website data weekly. But the legislature disputed that.
Phil Carlucci, who heads the Assembly's information technology department, noted that House and Senate floor votes are updated in nearly-real time --- even during the marathon sessions in late June, when the legislature is wrapping up its work.
The only exception, he said, is bill changes coming out of committee meetings. Those are generally posted the next morning as those meetings sometimes go late into the night.
