EAST GREENWICH, R.I. -- An East Greenwich High School student was charged Thursday with possession of a firearm while on school grounds.
Detective Sgt. Jon T. Chirnside said that the student, David E. Costanza, 18, told the school's vice principal that there was "an item of concern" in a boys' bathroom. Chirnside said the school official found an unloaded .45-caliber replica BB gun in the bathroom.
An investigation indicated that Costanza owned the weapon and had brought it to school, Chirnside reported.
Costanza was brought before Bail Commissioner Michael Robinson, who released him with an order to have no contact with the school. The case will be referred to the attorney general's office, Chirnside said.
