PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An early afternoon shooting Thursday is believed gang-related, according to Deputy Police Chief Thomas F. Oates III.
Oates said that Justin Forbes, 22, a Providence resident whose street address was not immediately available, was working with two acquaintances on a car in a lot at Broad and Moore Streets around 12:45 p.m. when an unidentified individual approached, fired several shots at the group and fled.
Oates said Forbes was taken to Rhode Island hospital by private car. A hospital spokeswoman said no one by that name had been admitted. Oates said he believed the man's wound was not life-threatening.
He said investigators believe that Forbes and another member of the group had been targeted in a gang dispute.
