PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The Pawtucket police are searching for the motorist who struck a homeless woman walking with a cane early Saturday morning and left her to die.
Lauretta Hobbs, 67, was found by passers-by lying on Lonsdale Avenue, near Beecher Street, a few minutes before 2 a.m., said police Maj. Arthur Martins. She was conscious as rescuers brought her to the hospital, Martins said, but she was unable to tell them what had happened.
Hobbs later died of internal injuries, Martins said.
Police are searching for the driver and any witnesses. There was no description of the vehicle.
