PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- While the state of Connecticut scrambles to keep open six air-traffic-control towers that have been slated for closure because of automatic budget cuts, no towers in Rhode Island will be affected, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut says he's got a proposal to help protect federal funding for third-party contract air traffic control towers.
Blumenthal is scheduled to announce "a legislative effort" at a news conference planned Monday at the Brainard Airport hangar in Hartford.
Connecticut's federal delegation announced this month that six state airports may lose all their air traffic controllers in April as a result of $85 billion in automatic cuts that have taken effect.
