PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After a late-winter storm made for a messy commute, the wet weather will continue for much of the day, according to our weather partners at WPRI.
The snow and sleet is turning to rain -- although the changeover could be delayed in norther parts of the state -- but the region could see more snow or sleet showers tonight as the temperature dips to about 28 degrees, WPRI says.
Before the change to rain, the storm was expected to drop four to six inches of snow on areas north and west of Providence, while the Providence metro area, Kent County, South County and norther Bristol County in Massachusetts were expected to get two to four inches, according to our weather partners at WPRI. Coastal areas could see up to two inches of snow.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Northwest Rhode Island, while a winter weather advisory has been issued for other parts of the state.
The temperature should warm to 39 degrees today and mostly rain is expected by late morning and afternoon, WPRI says. A wintry mix could continue later in northern Rhode Island.
The sky will finally clear after midnight. Spring arrives at 7:02 a.m. Wednesday.
Many schools have delayed their opening.
