PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man already serving a life sentence for killing his girlfriend was sentenced Friday to two consecutive live sentences and 40 years for the Oct. 2010 murder of a man in Pawtucket after an argument in a gas station.

"There is no place for you in civilized society," Superior Court Judge Robert D. Krause told Victor J. Arciliares, 24.

The sentence guarantees Arciliares would never be eligible for parole.

The authorities said Arciliares, while on bail on charges of killing his girlfriend Dayvelliz Cotto, in Oct. 2009, got into an argument at a gas station on Thurbers Avenue in Providence, tailed the car into Pawtucket and shot the driver, Alfredo "Pauly" Barros, in the chest at a stoplight at Marrin and George streets in Pawtucket. The passenger was shot in the neck, but survived. Arciliares, the authorities said, then went to a party.

Correction: The sentence Victor J. Arciliares received this morning was incorrect in an earlier version of this report. He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years in the murder of Alfredo "Pauly" Barros, whose nickname was also incorrect.
