COVENTRY, R.I. -- Superior Court Justice Brian P. Stern will render a decision Monday at 1 p.m. to determine whether details of contingency plans for the financially troubled Central Coventry Fire District should be made public.

Stern had originally announced he would hold a hearing Monday.

The fire district has been in receivership since October. Taxpayers are scheduled to vote on a new budget Tuesday. If the budget is rejected, Stern has authorized Special Master Richard J. Land to liquidate the district.

At Stern's request, Coventry's three other fire districts, Hopkins Hill, Coventry and Western Coventry prepared contingency plans to provide service in the event Central Coventry is liquidated.

On Friday a motion was filed on behalf of state Rep. Patricia Morgan and Sen. Nicholas Kettle asking Stern to release the plans.

An earlier version of this report was posted at 1:32 p.m.
