WARWICK, R.I. -- Officials gathered at Conimicut Point Park on Friday to unveil a list of the top 10 coastal spots in Rhode Island "worth protecting" and to call on Congress to continue supporting the Land and Water Conservation, which provides financial help for such outdoor attractions.
The news conference was organized by Environment Rhode Island and featured guest speakers Scott Avedisian, Warwick's mayor, and Janet Coit, director of the state Department of Environmental Management.
"I urge Senators Reed and Whitehouse to continue to champion Rhode Island's natural heritage by supporting full and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund and to fight to make sure that Rhode Island's beaches and parks can stay open and in good condition now and in the future," Miranda Bertholet, preservation intern with Environment Rhode Island, said in a statement.
