INDIANAPOLIS -- Exeter's Laura Sogar became the first female at the University of Texas to win an NCAA swimming title in 12 years when she captured the 200-meter breaststroke Saturday night at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Sogar, who is from Exeter and is a senior at Texas, posted a preliminary time of 2:08.23 on Saturday morning. In the finals, she shaved nearly three seconds off that time to win the event. Sogar finished in a time of 2:05.41. Minnesota's Haley Spencer was second in 2:06.15 and Texas A&M's Breeja Larson was third in 2:06.24.
Sogar finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke last season at the NCAA championships. Sogar's personal-best time in the the event is 2:05.04.
