JOHNSTON, R.I. -- After being flagged down by a distraught and bleeding woman, police arrested Steven Rengigas, 49, of 6 Ferncrest Drive, on charges in connection with an attempt to strangle her during an argument over an unpaid bill.
Police said that Brittany Ennis, 27, had a bloodied face when she flagged them down around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Cherry Hill Road. She said Rengigas, with whom she had been living for three months, choked her and banged her head against the bathroom floor before she pretended to fall unconscious and later managed to flee.
Ordered by Bail Commissioner John McCaffrey to have no contact with Ennis, Rengigas was released Monday on $2,000 bail.
