CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- A Central Falls resident was ordered held as a bail violator Wednesday after he was charged with cruelty to animals.
The bail violation involved an unrelated case against John Montegio, 38, of 352 Central St., who also was charged with unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine
According to police, the Central Falls Office of Animal Control tipped off law enforcement officers that someone could be breeding pitbull puppies, a breed that is illegal to possess in the city.
The issue came to light when the staff at the Attleboro Animal Shelter noticed that the three month old pit-bull's ears appeared infected and maliciously docked.
Police officers found three pitbulls at Montegio's residence and issued a summons to municipal court.
