EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two New York men face more than 100 counts of conspiracy and counterfeiting after police allegedly found bogus gift cards valued in the thousands of dollars during a traffic stop.
The police charged Sherlyn Oplan, 29, with 147 counts of forgery and counterfeiting and 138 counts of conspiracy following the stop Friday afternoon on Route 195 east, police said.
Luc Beaubrun, 25, was charged with 138 counts of forgery and counterfeiting and 138 of conspiracy.
Police discovered after stopping a Toyota Camry driven by Beaubrun for speeding that neither man was authorized to drive the rental car, police said.
Police found more than 100 fraudulent Visa, Mastercard and American Express gift cards worth thousands of dollars, police said. The men were ordered held on $100,000 bail.
