Today in RI history: Providence gets say in redevelopment of former Route 195 land

A year ago today:
A car strikes a utility pole and catches fire while turning from New London Avenue onto Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston. A passenger was killed, and the driver was seriously hurt.

5 years ago today:
The state and the city have struck a deal to give Providence a voice in the sale of the land uncovered when Route 195 is peeled away four years from now -- a once-in-a-lifetime property sale that some envision will lead to towering new office buildings that reshape the city's skyline.


25 years ago today:

The body of Carol Migliaccio, 27, of 7 Carson St., Pawtucket , is recovered about a half-mile from where her car plunged into the Blackstone River in Lincoln six days ago.
