PROVIDENCE, R. I. -- Brown University is launching a program, the TRI-Lab, that will bring together faculty, students and members of the Rhode Island community to focus on local social issues.
The pilot will focus on healthy early childhood development in Rhode Island. The TRI-Lab will look at health inequities, early childhood preparation and early childhood education.
During the first year, three or four students and a similar number of faculty will meet with community leaders to identify specific goals.
The Lab will be chaired by Stephen Buka, chair of the department of epidemiology, and Elizabeth Burke Bryant, executive director of Rhode Island Kids Count.
Brown University President Christina Paxson said it connects the university's research capabilities with the Swearer Center's community engagement mission.
